The winner of Harewood’s staff charity draw for April is Emma Foster from our accounts department, who nominated the 12th Bolton St Bartholomew’s Brownie Unit of Girlguiding Uk to receive the £1,000 donation.
When Emma visited the Westhoughton based Brownie Pack she was met by team leader Annaliese Sims, who gave Emma a full tour and told her more about Brownies and their unity. She explained that Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK and is run solely by volunteers and supporters. Through fun and friendship, the charity empowers nearly half a million girls, no matter what their background, to experience life changing adventures, to achieve their potential, to make a difference, to be their best and to face the challenges of growing up today.
Annaliese then went on to talk about important fundraising is in order to provide necessary resources and keep their branch active. The donation will be spent on trips and activities including their camping trip this year.
When Emma was asked why she chose this charity she said, ‘I live near to St Bartholomew’s where the Brownies are based and I think it’s fantastic that they allow girls to find their voice and promote strong female independence from a young age, which I feel is incredibly important. They are also actively encourage at all times to make a positive difference in their community. We could all take inspiration from their hard work and dedication!”
