We are delighted to announce the winner of Harewood’s staff charity draw for May is Mollie Lythgoe, from our marketing team, who nominated Alder Hey Children’s hospital in Liverpool.
Mollie chose this charity because it is particularly close to her heart. Her cousin Bridie who is 5 years old, pictured with Mollie, has a rare heart disease called Truncas Arteriousus. This means that a single blood vessel (truncus arteriosus) comes out of the right and left ventricles, instead of the normal 2 vessels.
Bridie has had 2 open heart surgeries at Alder Hey at just a few days old and goes for regular check-ups with Doctor Peart.
When Mollie visited the charity, she was met by the lovely Cath Harding, who is Head of Fundraising at Alder Hey. Cath explained that donations like ours are fundamental in keeping the charity going. She also explained that donations go towards vital research, ‘Food on demand’ service, next generation X-rays with EOS machines, operating theatre technology, personalised bedrooms, cardiac patient distractions and a whole load more of resources that the NHS simply can’t fund.
Just a few of the upcoming Alder Hey charity fundraising events that people can take part in are a sponsored walk around Knowsley Safari Park, Kilimanjaro trek or Vietnam and Cambodia challenge (sponsored cycle).
Thank you so much to Mollie for giving us an insight into the amazing work that this charity does! To find out more, please go to www.alderheycharity.org
